The Secret’s Out
In the Chicago area, it’s no surprise that JCC Chicago and high-quality day camps go hand-in-hand. But, did you know that we have one of the best kept camp secrets in the northern and northwest suburbs? We didn’t mean for it to be hush-hush, but we hear time and time again from parents that they were not aware of a great way to save on the cost of camp at ‘Z’ Frank Apachi in Northbrook and Elaine Frank Apachi in Lake Zurich.
CampStart is a sponsored program that began five years ago to encourage families with young campers to select Jewish day camp. (It is similar to the overnight camp One Happy Camper program.) Through CampStart, we are able to offer grants to help offset the cost of camp for first-time campers. These savings are an incentive and not need-based.
First-time campers who are entering 2nd grade and younger can qualify to:
- Save up to $750 at ‘Z’ Frank Apachi
- Save up to $300 at Elaine Frank Apachi
For many kids, JCC day camp is the first place (since Jewish preschool) where they link “Jewish” and “fun.” The impact of Jewish camp is immediate—campers feel connected to a community and form friendships that will last them a lifetime. And it doesn’t stop there. Study after study shows children with pivotal Jewish camp experiences are more likely to become adults who value their Jewish heritage, support Jewish causes and take on leadership roles in their communities.
Apachi J Camps are places where campers from all backgrounds are welcomed and embraced by the spirit of the Jewish community. Shabbat Fridays bring campers a little closer together as they celebrate Apachi-style. Maccabi games give our campers the chance to compete in this uniquely Jewish sporting event. And, an Israeli shuk can turn camp into Jerusalem, even if just for one day.
We want every child to experience this magic. CampStart is a way of encouraging families to choose Apachi J Camp. Help us make sure that CampStart is a no longer a secret.
