Elaine Frank Apachi is Turning 10!
Turning 10 is an exciting milestone. It’s the birthday celebrated where a child enters The Double Digits Club, and they are so proud! Everyone captures the iconic family photo of a child holding up both hands, eager to show off this exciting birthday.
At Elaine Frank Apachi J Camp. we are turning 10 too! In preparation for our Double Digits, the staff created a Top 10 list of things they are most excited for during our 10th summer:
10. Welcoming Campers
We are so excited to meet our campers in person and welcome them to our camp groups. With a special handshake, song and cheer, each camper will feel included and part of something special.
9. Encouraging Campers to Gain Independence
Being with campers every day for 4 or 8 weeks, we see the small changes that occur which show campers’ independence. Whether it is Juniors getting dressed by themselves after swimming or Pioneers choosing their activities, these small moments are huge accomplishments.
8. Making New Friends and Keeping the Old
Our groups all have campers who are new and returning to Apachi. Through games and activities, we help our campers get to know each other, form new friendships and strengthen others.
7. Reassuring Kids to Take Safe Risks
Camp is all about doing new things. For some campers, getting into the pool can be intimidating while other campers will fear the climbing wall. We use encouragement and praise to help children try something new, exciting and unknown within the security of our safe camp environment.
6. Gaining Leadership Skills
At Apachi, all campers, CITs and staff have an opportunity to be leaders. From our campers, to counselors, to CITs, everyone has the opportunity to be a leader in camp. We focused a lot on this idea during staff training, and we are ready to put our skills to work to make the best summer for our campers.
5. Being Part of an Inclusive Community
We are excited to partner with Keshet to provide an inclusive camp experience for campers and their families who need additional support.
4. Unplugging from Technology
Even we need the break from technology. The only entertainment needed at Apachi is our friends and some sun.
3. Experiencing Shabbat Together
Shabbat is one the best times of the week. We are excited to create and experience Shabbat as a community, using themes of kindness, sportsmanship and friendships.
2. Watching a Child Do Something for the First Time
We know it’s a big deal when a camper does something new for the first time. We promise to recognize these moments and help boost each camper’s self-esteem.
1. Making Memories
Every day at camp is filled with opportunities to make memories to last a lifetime.
Extra Candle to Grow On: Our 10th Birthday Celebration
We have planned an all-camp birthday party for July with carnival games, pinatas, traditional party games and more. We will celebrate with a special birthday snack and birthday sing down.
We all very excited and proud of our last 10 years serving the northwest community. It’s been a fantastic decade, and we are already looking forward to the next one.
