What It Means to Create a Jewish Legacy
Helen Weinger turns 100 years old this Tuesday. In recognition of this incredible milestone birthday we remember Helen’s daughter, Susie Spector’s, beautiful words about the legacy of giving. L’Dor V’Dor, from one generation to the next.
What It Means to Create a Jewish Legacy
It seems now, more than ever, legacy giving is an essential part of the growth and trajectory of our Jewish community. Legacy gifts are a wonderful way to connect generation to generation, providing an essential lifeline and connection to our community.
But for me, it’s personal. Supporting our JCC allows us to set an example for our children and grandchildren and make a true impact on their lives. That really hit home for me this year while I was attending a J-Hawks basketball game for my grandson at Bernard Weinger JCC. As we were standing in the lobby after the game, my grandson turned to me and said, “Grandma, your name, Poppy’s name and my dad’s name are up on the wall!” I smiled and explained that we felt it was important to help build this JCC so that children like him would have a place to come to do things like play basketball, swim, take classes or go to camp and pre-school. That’s why we wanted to donate money to help. He then looked up at me and said, “Grandma, I hope that someday my name will be up on the wall too!”
From generation to generation, that is what it is all about!
