JCC Chicago Launches Two Non-Traditional Programs to Build Connections to Jewish Values & Language Skills
Hebrew Immersion and Israel Education Being Offered at Day Camps
Chicago, IL –December 21, 2015— JCC Chicago has announced two new summer camp experiences that reinforce the importance and impact that Jewish summer camp can have on a child’s identity. Beginning this June, JCC Chicago will launch a Hebrew Immersion program for kids ages 4 and 5 at the Apachi Village Day Camp in Northbrook and add an Israeli Village where campers will learn about Israel and engage with its history and culture at “Z” Frank Apachi in Northbrook.
Hebrew at Camp will be led by a combination of local and Israeli staff, and guided by qualified educators. Regardless of prior Hebrew language experience, campers will learn Modern Hebrew using a game-oriented and experiential approach.
The Israeli Village at “Z” Frank Apachi will become central to each child’s camp experience, utilizing an age-appropriate curriculum that incorporates important events in Israeli history, key people and places, Hebrew language, information about the land, and aspects of modern culture. These themes will be implemented through interactive activities that will help foster a strong understanding of and connection to Israel.
