JCC Breaks Ground on New Fitness Center in Northbrook
Northbrook, IL – April 18, 2016—JCC Chicago broke ground on the innovative 13,500 square foot fitness center at the Bernard Weinger JCC in Northbrook. The Marvin Lustbader Center for Health, Wellness and Fitness, which is set to open later this year, will become a workout and wellness destination for the North Shore. The project was made possible by the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago’s Centennial Campaign.
Centrally located in east Northbrook, near the corner of Skokie Hwy and Lake Cook Road, the new fitness center will be a beautiful, modern whole body health and wellness space for the community. The Lustbader Center will house a weight room, spin studio and multiple group exercise rooms. State-of-the-art cardio machines with the latest integrated technology and interactive software, plus suspension training equipment to build strength, flexibility and core stability will be defining elements of the new space. Between the Lustbader Center, the Glick Family Sports Complex’s twenty-five yard indoor pool and full size gymnasium, and additional interior renovations, the Bernard Weinger JCC will soon be a place where community members can participate in rehabilitation and physical therapy, enjoy steam and massage, and access renovated locker rooms, dedicated childcare spaces and a totally new family changing area.
“We’re re-imagining the J’s commitment to health and fitness with this incredible workout and wellness center,” said Alan Sataloff, CEO of JCC Chicago. “Because of the generous support of the Lustbader family, our community will now have a new place to discover a strong and meaningful mind-body connection.”
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by more than 100 community members and supporters of the project, including the extended Lustbader family. “Marv believed in the importance of taking care of each other,” said Marilyn Lustbader, Marvin’s wife, who generously donated the lead gift to build the center which will bear her late husband’s name. “This project is the perfect fit for our family to honor and remember Marv’s life and legacy. He would be incredibly proud.”
“When Marilyn came to us expressing an interest in considering a meaningful project, we immediately thought we had the perfect match. Marvin loved the Jewish community, he loved the North Shore, and he also loved sports. He played golf, was an avid skier, and a great racquetball player. And so here we are building a state-of-the-art health and wellness center on the North Shore. It was meant to be,” said Dr. Steven B. Nasatir, President of the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago.
The Marvin Lustbader Center for Health, Wellness and Fitness is set to open in late 2016. Information about membership fees, class schedules, gym and babysitting hours will be available this summer.
