Dear JCC Chicago Friends,
We wanted to update you about how the recent Center for Disease Control (CDC) mask guidance update and Governor Pritzker’s executive order will affect JCC Chicago buildings and participation in our in-person programs. Governor Pritzker recently announced, in conjunction with CDC’s mask guidance, that fully vaccinated people may resume indoor activities without wearing a mask. According to the Governor, if you are not vaccinated, you are required to continue to wear a mask while indoors. Therefore, by entering JCC Chicago buildings without a face covering, you are verifying truthfully that you have been fully vaccinated.
What It Means To You
Starting on Sunday, May 23, you may enter and move about JCC Chicago buildings without a face covering if you are fully vaccinated. In compliance with the CDC and state of Illinois, you are still required to wear a mask at all times while in our buildings, if you are not fully vaccinated. While we are emerging from the most stringent pandemic safety guidelines, we will maintain a number of COVID-19 safety precautions for the foreseeable future such as promoting social distancing and increased cleaning and sanitation of high traffic areas.
Please note, our Early Childhood programs follow the guidance of the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and therefore the current DCFS health and safety protocols remain in place until further notice, including wearing a mask when in the Early Childhood wing at all times regardless of vaccination status. If your child is registered to attend Apachi Day Camp and/or Camp Chi this summer, there are no changes to the planned health and safety protocols as of now. You will receive an update directly from your camp director as guidance evolves from the CDC, state and local Departments of Public Health and the American Camp Association (ACA).
There has been a lot of information and change the past few weeks, so we want to thank everyone in advance for having patience as we navigate and implement all these new policies and guidelines.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Vaccinated: In general, people are considered fully vaccinated:
- 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or
- 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine
- If you don’t meet these requirements, regardless of your age, you are NOT fully vaccinated. Keep taking all precautions until you are fully vaccinated.
Unvaccinated: We understand and respect that not everyone can, has, or wants to get the vaccine. In accordance with state guidelines and until the Governor changes the current mask policy, individuals who are not vaccinated must continue to wear a mask in any JCC Chicago building.
Continued Safety Precautions: While we have always made safety and cleanliness of our program spaces a top priority, the pandemic has required greater emphasis in this area. We will continue to maintain those high standards as we move into Restore Illinois Phase 5 and beyond.
Social Distancing: As we open up more of our facilities and as capacity limits welcome more community members to gather, we still encourage all members to practice social distancing as best they can. When possible, please maintain at least 6 feet of distance between yourself and others.
