We continue to wish you and your loved ones health and strength during this time. It’s hard to believe it’s been 50 days since we were last together at the J.
Today, we are so pleased to share that the temporary furlough of JCC Chicago employees has been lifted and staff will be reinstated at full pay effective this week. This good news comes with our successful receipt of a federal Paycheck Protection Program loan. The work to secure the loan was successful in deep partnership with First Midwest Bank, our steadfast financial partner, and the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Chicago. For staff who continue to be financially impacted, the JCC Chicago Emergency Employee Relief Fund remains available and has already distributed nearly $35,000 to staff with demonstrated need.
Over the last seven weeks, we have been weathering this experience as a connected community. We are incredibly proud of our resourceful JCC Chicago staff who immediately shifted programming to innovating, engaging and uplifting virtual experiences—and the impact has been incredible. From our youngest learners to teens, from parents juggling work-at-home and families to seniors learning to embrace new technology, we have done this work together. Our virtual doors are wide open to all who want to engage, learn and connect. Our programs have welcomed participants from neighboring communities, across the country and in Canada with tens of thousands participating in seven short weeks. We are very much Apart Together.
We will continue to follow the shelter at home order through May 30. Currently, we are planning for the reopening of our early childhood centers, preparing necessary modifications to protect the health and safety of the children, staff and families, and preparing for the future reopening of other programs and our centers as a whole. This work is being done under the advisement of State and County Departments of Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and JCC Association.
Finally, please stay tuned for Giving Tuesday Now happening on Tuesday, May 5, a special day of community giving. While we are closed today, we are eager to welcome our community back to the programs and services that are part of so many daily lives. Your support will help ensure we return to full operation when it is safe to do so.
Thank you, more than ever, for your partnership and support. We will continue to keep you updated in the coming weeks about reopening plans and when in-person programs will resume. In the meantime, please continue to check out Channel J for programs, live events and more from JCC Chicago.
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
