We’re reaching out with an update about JCC Chicago programs and plans as we move into the third week of closures for our organization.
With deep gratitude, we are so pleased to share that our partners at the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Chicago (JUF) have sourced funding support to enable all JCC Chicago employees to be paid in full through Friday, April 17. This extraordinary news and support from JUF is a huge lift for our agency, a testament to the talent of our staff and the vital work we do to build community and keep people connected. We will continue our work related to staff compensation beyond April 17 and will share more as information is known closer to that date.
JCC Chicago was among the first in the State to suspend services at preschools and community centers to help keep our community and the greater public safe. While the country was just beginning to understand the severity and rapid spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), that decision was clearly the right one. Today, absent of programs and related program fees, we are immensely grateful to count on the support of our JUF partners when we need it most.
Additionally, JCC Chicago community funders and the JCC Chicago Board of Directors have established the JCC Chicago Emergency Employee Relief Fund which will support our staff with need-based funds to ease financial hardship during this time. The application process for employees is strictly confidential with dollars being paid directly to staff for expenses such as rent, food and medication. We recognize that though JCC Chicago is able to maintain its staff for several additional weeks, at a minimum, their families may be otherwise impacted. The fund welcomes all donations to support our staff; you may make a donation here. Thank you very much.
Our creative and enthusiastic JCC Chicago team members bring our agency’s mission-critical work to the community every day and this work is continuing despite our physical doors being closed. Please tune into Channel J for programs we are bringing directly to your homes, some of our own and some in partnership with community agencies. In the last week alone, our online resources have reached thousands of people across our community, from the youngest preschool students to seniors, teens, parents, young professionals and more. We love hearing from you with photos, posts and texts so please keep them coming! We take tremendous in pride in knowing how our work is keeping our community connected and spirits uplifted.
Our centers will remain closed until both the stay at home order and mandated closure of preschools is lifted. We are monitoring the situation closely and continuously. At this time, with the national social distancing timeline extended to April 30th, we do not anticipate opening before then. We will continue to keep you updated weekly via email, our website and social media as information becomes available and with updates about when programs will resume.
We know how much you and your family count on the team at JCC Chicago and, in turn, we count on you. We are in this together and we will get through this together. More than ever, please take care of yourself and each other.
In Good Health,
President & CEO
Chair, Board of Directors
